My name is Marios Raspopoulos, and I am an Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with specialization in Telecommunication Engineering.
Tell us a few words about your background:
I received an MEng in Electronics & Mobile Communications (2003) and an MSc in Communications Networks & Software (2004) from the University of Surrey, UK. From 2004 to 2008 I was a Researcher at the Centre for Communications and Systems Research (CCSR), Surrey, and in 2008 I received his PhD in Telecommunications from the University of Surrey. My research interests span through the wide spectrum of ICT with a special focus on Wireless Communication. I have been heavily involved in Telecommunication Projects in areas like Radio Propagation, Ray Tracing and Wireless Channel Modelling, but have also expanded in other areas of ICT Research, like positioning and Tracking, IoT, Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation etc.

UCLan Cyprus is the first Branch Campus of the University of Central Lancashire and at the same time a fully licensed University in Cyprus. A unique and innovative model of a Cypriot and British University Educational Experience, accredited by the UK Quality Assurance Agency and the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA) respectively
The School of Sciences at UCLan Cyprus encompasses a wide range of research activities in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, IoT, ICT and Cybersecurity. It adopts an interdisciplinary approach in its research a innovation activities which is implemented through research clusters which are formed within the School and carry out research in various Industry-related (4.0 and beyond) areas including Electrical Engineering, Wireless communication and wireless sensor networks, IoT, Ubiquitous and Context-aware systems, Network Security, Communication, Data Management and Mining, Electronics and Instrumentation, Localization/Positioning etc. Most of the academic members of staff at UCLan Cyprus have been involved in many Research and Training programs in the past. What is your role in the PREVENT project? What are you currently working on?
I am the leader of Work Package 2, which aims to develop the syllabus and identify and propose the best pedagogical practices and methodologies for the delivery of material related to Deep Technologies and how these can be used to make students more capable in solving problems and challenges related to natural disasters.
Why is being part of the PREVENT project important to you?
Beyond sharing the knowledge about Deep technology, PREVENT is important to us as it is a unique opportunity for us to interact with partners working on the same topics and help us improve and modernize our teaching materials and practices.
